Your intension of prayer determine the outcome of your prayers. If you could ask God for anything what would it be? Would it be things, success, money, relationships and more. You see, the Creator already knows what we have need of and that is considered "small talk" in prayer. Even the focus of such things limits the bond we can build with the Creator. His presence is more valuable than anything because His presence is life itself.
